Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and resigns in Philadelphia. Puyâ (ፑዬ) Yohannes, Illustrator and Graphic Designer, most recognized for incorporates her culture (Ethiopian) in all her artwork. Using her images to explore the depths and beauty of woman/girls of color. Through her art she takes you on a journey of her childhood home “Bole” where she grew up. Every piece of art tell a story immersed deep aesthetics beauty and emotion.
Illustration are whimsical, colorful and detailed artwork representation of women and men of color. Artwork is available in t-shirts, prints, environmental friendly tote bags, greeting cards, and soon coming is a children’a book.
She is inspired by her two children and stories of folktails from her native land. The resiliency of her country, culture and the exquisite presence of both. Realizing that black/brown people aren’t represented enough in a books, movies and social media. She wants to display as many images through her work to empower and educate while creating connection to her culture Ethiopia. Her illistration tell stories for children, woman and the misrepersanted.
Her goal is to show children/women that they are beautiful especially ethiopian art artist , movies, social media.
